Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood continues to impress on loan in Spain, scoring his best goal yet at the weekend.

Away from Manchester United, Mason Greenwood is letting his football do the talking during his loan spell at Getafe.

At the weekend he scored a rocket of a goal from outside the box, firing Getafe to a 2-1 win at home to Almeria, which saw former United trainee Largie Ramazani score for the visitors.

Greenwood’s strike was hailed as a ‘goal of the year’ contender by the Spanish press.

Getafe manager speaks out

Mason Greenwood has now scored four goals for Getafe, also contributing three assists. It is a good return from his opening 11 games.

His manager Jose Bordalas has credited the entire team with helping Greenwood get up to speed, and acknowledged it has not been straightforward, considering the amount of time the forward spent out of the game.

Bordalas told Marca: “We have been working with Mason since he arrived, with a lot of patience, working on timing. You all know that he has not played for two years.

“There has been a very big deficit and he is recovering with the help of everyone. The credit belongs to everyone.

“It was a great goal, we know the quality he has. He is not yet at his best level. I am very happy because he has integrated phenomenally. I congratulate his teammates who have helped him a lot.”

More to come from Greenwood

It is notable that Bordalas says Greenwood ‘is not yet at his best level’. We don’t doubt that the 22-year-old has a lot more to give.

The problem Getafe will face, is that Greenwood may quickly outgrow them.

His future at Manchester United seems done, it is impossible to see a way back, but it would be easy to see a bigger Spanish team coming in for him and making an attractive offer to club and player.
