Gary Neville’s instant reaction on moment Manchester United blew chance to win v Tottenham

Gary Neville has given his verdict on Scott McTominay’s big moment for the Manchester United which the Scottish midfielder missed.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United picked up a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford with goals from Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford not enough for the victory.

It was poor defending for the Red Devils as they conceded two sloppy goals, particularly the second strike, barely 50 seconds into the second half perhaps the most frustrating aspect of the game.

The Red Devils had very little to go at in the second half but there was one moment in particular, that could well have won United the game.

Scott McTominay was summoned onto the pitch in the second half of the game at Old Trafford as United were struggling to get a foothold in the game.

Spurs were dominant in the second half of the game but Alejandro Garnacho nearly created the winning moment in added time as his floated cross found the Scottish midfielder in the box.

However, McTominay, unlike his previous goalscoring exploits at Old Trafford this season, failed to find the back of the net as the 26-year-old headed the cross over the bar.

On Sky Sports Main Event, Gary Neville gave his verdict on the chance and he didn’t hold back: “He has to score that chance, it was a brilliant ball by Garnacho. Does he maybe have too much time to think about it? I’m not sure.”

McTominay shouldn’t get the blame

Despite the chance being a guilt-edged one, it was probably the only chance that the Red Devils created in a very lacklustre second half.

Putting all of the blame on the midfielder, who only came on as a second-half substitute, is incredibly harsh considering nothing of note was created during the second 45.

It was a big game for the Red Devils and, barring the first half, United failed to make their presence felt and with Sir Jim Ratcliffe watching, alongside Sir Alex Ferguson, this could be a concern for Ten Hag.

United didn’t deserve to win the game and struggled to take control of the match in the second half.
