Gary Neville’s cynical prediction over Manchester United manager is looking like coming true

Manchester United have decided they do not want to wait any longer to pay Erik ten Hag’s release clause, report ESPN Netherlands.

The Telegraph report developments are moving ‘very quickly’ and the club hope to soon be able to make an announcement.

The news is welcome for Manchester United fans to get some clarity over direction, and for the players too, even though Ten Hag will not officially arrive until the end of the season.

There is also a cynical aspect to United now pushing it through, as predicted by Gary Neville.

Saturday’s Manchester United performance against Leicester was a tough watch. United were fortunate to leave Old Trafford with a 1-1 draw, and fans continue to grow restless.

There has been talk of more protests on social media, and Neville told Sky Sports he expected United to counter the ill-feeling by progressing the manager situation.

Speaking after the draw, Neville said: “Over the next week I suspect after that performance we might see a PR spike, and the manager might be named.

“That was a really tough watch today. It was flat, we are bored.

“That was really bad out there today. This is going to be a long two months for United players and fans if they continue to play like that.”

Neville knows how United think, and while his own preference was for Mauricio Pochettino, the board have gone the other way, for Ajax manager Ten Hag.

The announcement should come shortly, although whether this is enough to quell growing anti-Glazer sentiment is another matter.

United’s problems are far beyond the manager, with Ten Hag’s arrival only a small part of the equation, but it certainly helps.

Now we will see if United’s performances on the pitch begin to improve. With the announcement not quite made yet, it could be made between the Everton match and before the next home fixture, against Norwich City.
