Gary Neville rips into Manchester United after 4-1 defeat

Manchester United have been heavily beaten by Manchester City at The Etihad.

United had trailed 2-1 at half-time before losing 4-1, with Jadon Sancho scoring United’s goal.

City controlled the second half with United barely getting a kick as Pep Guardiola’s side controlled possession, like their 2-0 win at The Etihad earlier in the season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, former United star Gary Neville expressed his blunt views after the final whistle.

Neville said: “At the end of that game Manchester United finished like an absolute shower. They were a disgrace in the last 25 minutes.”

On interim manager Ralf Rangnick, Neville added: “The first game they come up against a proper team, they’ve been given a proper doing.”

United’s defeat by numbers

City had 70 per cent possession in total and had 24 shots to United’s five. United had no attempts on goal in the scond half.

City completed 740 passes to United’s 326 and had nine corners to United’s three.

But the biggest numerical difference between the two teams now lies in the league table, with City now holding a 22 point gap between the two teams with the same number of points played.

City also have a goal difference of +43 compared to United.

United had been unbeaten in eight league games prior to this match, but with far too many draws, and the team now lie in fifth place, one point behind fourth placed Arsenal – who also have three games in hand.
