Manchester United’s move for Frenkie de Jong remains stuck in limbo with the midfielder currently on tour with Barcelona in the USA.
De Jong had just been holidaying in America before flying back to Barcelona in early July, before making the trip back across the Atlantic last Saturday.
Fabrizio Romano reported a week ago that United and Barcelona are in full agreement over De Jong, but the player is resisting a move.
The Telegraph report one reason for the hold-up is because De Jong is owed £17 million in wages and will not leave without being paid what he is owed.

‘Frenkie de Jong does not want Manchester United move’
There have been more claims from Spain this week that De Jong’s reasons for not jumping at a move to United is because he simply does not want to play at Old Trafford.
Spanish outlet Sport claimed De Jong would jump at a move to Bayern Munich if a move materialised, believing the German side to be a better fit.
Another report via Sport claimed he would even prefer a move to Chelsea as he does not like the way Manchester United are run.
It all seems very speculative, probably with the aim to put pressure on Barcelona to pay him what he is owed, or even accept him back into the team.
Former United defender Gary Neville took a quip at the reports after they were relayed by Sky Sports.
Sport report Barcelona still hope De Jong will give in and accept a move to United, insisting the Red Devils are prepared to wait right down to the transfer deadline.
From hoping this deal would be concluded in time for pre-season tour, it seems highly unlikely a deal will be done by time the season begins.
And if the reports are true about De Jong really being dead set against a move to Manchester United, it may not happen at all. But for now, we will choose – perhaps blindly – to disregard them and believe the reports are part of a wider strategy to apply pressure to Barcelona.
