Gary Neville has delivered a rather damning verdict of Manchester United’s plight after Pep Guardiola’s comments following the win in the derby.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City swept Erik ten Hag’s side aside with relative ease in what was a stark contrast to last season’s clash at Old Trafford, Manchester United won that game 2-1.
The game was over as a contest by 48 minutes in and the ease with which City were controlling the game at their biggest rivals was a stark contrast to the gulf in class between the two sides.
Guardiola’s comments after the game were seemingly a subtle dig at the United hierarchy and Gary Neville has picked up on this.

Neville’s response
Following the victory, Guardiola said: “We are in the same direction, me, the CEO, the sporting directors, the chairman. That is why I think the club is so stable.”
It’s not a stretch to say that the former Barcelona manager was aiming a subtle dig at the club up the road, who are far from stable at this moment in time.
In response to this, Neville wrote on X, “That quote from Pep Guardiola is a monstrous dig into the running of United!”
The Red Devils, after a year of relative calm, are now back in the depths of drama that they have tried to avoid.
United’s rut
The club, whether it’s on or off the pitch, are seemingly in a rut and it is concerning that other managers in the Premier League are delivering such brutal assessments of the club.
What is perhaps the saddest thing of them all is the Spaniard is spot on. The club, from top to bottom, are a mess and the uncertainty around the ownership of the club is certainly not helping.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and more pertinently the Glazer family, need to hurry up and finalise the takeover of the club and end the months of uncertainty that is starting to infect the on-pitch performances.
