Gary Neville has named an iconic figure in Manchester United’s history that he wishes could play against Liverpool on Sunday because he’d make Arne Slot’s side suffer.
Manchester United are one of the most decorated clubs in world football, boasting a rich history of success, including 20 Premier League titles.
Those titles were won by a list of legendary players and managers – from the Busby Babes to the Class of 92 and beyond. Old Trafford has been the home of many greats, including Bryan Robson and Cristiano Ronaldo.
With the team currently sitting 10th in the Premier League table, there is enough proof to suggest Ruben Amorim doesn’t have the same number of world-class players as previous United teams.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 8 | 7 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 9 | 7 | 2 | 11 | |
| 9 | 7 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 7 | 6 | 1 | 11 | |
| 10 | 7 | 3 | 1 | 3 | 9 | 11 | -2 | 10 | |
| 11 | 7 | 2 | 3 | 2 | 6 | 5 | 1 | 9 | |
| 12 | 7 | 2 | 3 | 2 | 10 | 10 | 0 | 9 |
That is why United will face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday as underdogs. Arne Slot’s side have lost their last three matches, but they will be favourites to win as the reigning Premier League champions.
Amorim will be looking to go one step better after coming away from Anfield with a 2-2 draw last season.

Gary Neville says George Best would destroy Arne Slot’s Liverpool
As a lifelong United fan born in the mid-1970s, Gary Neville has seen some of the greatest players to play for the club, many of whom he called team-mates throughout his career.
There are players before his time he didn’t get to see, as every United fan knows about that, whether it’s Duncan Edwards, Sir Bobby Charlton, or someone else.
Neville spoke about players he didn’t see live that he would like to take back, noting how the thought of George Best playing at Anfield on Sunday gives him goosebumps.
The former United captain also named Edwards as a player he’d love to bring back to watch play live.
“I’d love to see, just for the viewing, I’d like to see Duncan Edwards or George Best,” Neville said on Stick To Football.
“Just purely to see George Best at his peak, playing at Anfield. I’m actually getting goosebumps a little bit.
“Imagine that, you bring George Best back at like 23 years of age, absolute peak, and literally go and play against Kerekz at Anfield off the right side or on the left side.”
George Best record against Liverpool
Best is one of United’s top scorers against Liverpool.
The Belfast-born legend made 20 appearances against Liverpool throughout his career, winning seven matches and scoring seven goals.
Best also drew against Liverpool on five occasions and lost eight times.
His best performance against Liverpool came when he scored both goals in a 2-1 win at Anfield in November 1967.
It’s mad to think Best’s United story could be different if it wasn’t for Jimmy Nicholson.
It has also been announced that United’s Trinity statue will be relocated when the stadium moves.
