Gary Neville mocks Liverpool after missing out on Premier League title

For a while there it wasn’t looking too good. Liverpool appeared to be closing in on the Premier League title, their third trophy of the season.

With a Champions League final against Real Madrid to come, there was a chance Liverpool could have won an unprecedented quadruple.

It would have bettered Manchester United’s famous Treble, and we would never have heard the end of it.

Thankfully Manchester City pulled through, just about, to beat Steven Gerrard’s Liverpool and win 3-2, to win the league.

Liverpool also missed out on equalling Manchester United’s record of 20 league titles.

Former Red Devils star Gary Neville could not resist at jab at the Merseysiders.

This season has been unbearable from a Manchester United perspective. We lost again today to Crystal Palace, scraping a sixth placed finish, virtue of West Ham’s defeat to Brighton.

The only solace is that Liverpool did not win it all. While it wasn’t ideal City won the title either, the best case scenario was for the two teams to split the silverware, rather than have one of them bettering United’s record.

With Liverpool already having the League Cup and FA Cup in the bank, thanks to penalty shootout wins, seeing them win the league title, with Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa helping them out, would have been unbearable.

Gerrard’s Villa had led 2-0 against City, before letting it slip, with City going on to win 3-2.
