Gary Neville has criticised Barcelona’s treatment of Erik ten Hag’s priority Manchester United transfer target Frenkie de Jong.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a reunion with his former Ajax boss throughout the summer transfer window.
The La Liga giants are keen to sell the midfielder who they signed for £65m from the reigning Eredivisie champions three years ago, to help mitigate their financial problems.
But while they try and usher their number 21 out of the Nou Camp, the Catalans have signed the likes of Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski while turning their attentions to hijacking Chelsea’s deal to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

De Jong’s representatives have rejected Barcelona’s initial offer to resolve the deferred wages the midfielder is owed.
That’s according to the Independent who claim the Spanish giants have ‘pressed upon’ the 44-time Netherlands international that the club “needs” him to go.
The midfield maestro has remained firm in his stance that he wants to remain at the Nou Camp, especially as he is owed over £14m in deferred wages.
De Jong is part of Barcelona’s pre-season tour in America, but both of his appearances under Xavi so far have come off the bench and seen him play at centre-back.
Former Manchester United right-back Neville has slated Barcelona for their treatment of the midfielder and has taken to Twitter to speak his mind on the ongoing saga.
De Jong has reaffirmed throughout the saga that he would like to remain at Barcelona, but given the Catalan’s desire for him to heavily reduce his wages and not accept his full deferral wage payment, the midfielder continues to get pushed out of the exit door.
But the 25-year-old hasn’t commented on his treatment and has remained professional on the club’s pre-season tour, but the way Barcelona have handled things has clearly irked Neville.
