Gary Neville believes Wout Weghorst needs to be taken out of the Manchester United starting side.
The on-loan striker from Burnley failed to make any positive impact once again during United’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on the weekend, which has led to a wave of backlash from fans and pundits.
Since his arrival in the January transfer window, the towering Dutchman has only managed one Premier League goal for the Red Devils, but Erik ten Hag appears to remain faithful in the forward – but this could be down to the fact he has no other choice with striking options mightily scare.

Gary Neville believes Wout Weghorst needs to be dropped
Neville appeared on Monday night football and had this to say when asked about the 30-year-olds recent impact.
“Since Sunday that seems to have been a moment, he has played basically every moment since coming in. I called him a placeholder because United didn’t invest in a striker United would want.
“This experiment has to stop, Weghorst has to come out, it can no longer go on.”
Neville then went on to discuss his overall impact compared to United’s first half of the season striker in Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Weghorst has 12 wins, four draws, three defeats, he has only scored two goals but the team has scored 37 goals, with Ronaldo it was 19 starts, they won three less games, drew three, and lost four more with him in the team, he scored 11 but the team itself only scored 23, they are massive differences.”
Ultimately, it’s a difficult situation as financial issues in January meant that ten Hag probably didn’t secure his ideal striker and with Anthony Martial‘s injury record proving a real issue, it’s open to interpretation as to what other avenue United could explore in another striking option at the moment.
When Marcus Rashford isn’t firing, it is difficult to see where the Red Devils’ goals are coming from, but is dropping Weghorst the solution?
With the games coming thick and fast, ten Hag will need to make an imminent decision. Let’s see who leads the line against Brentford on Wednesday night.
