Manchester United legend Gary Neville and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher could not see eye to eye over Mohamed Salah’s place in an all-time Premier League XI.

Mohamed Salah is considered one of the best players in the world right now and the Liverpool star is excelling for Manchester United’s rivals in the current campaign.

The 32-year-old Reds and Egypt attacker has netted 30 times and registered 22 assists in 39 matches across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign.

Salah’s stunning run of form this season has earned him widespread recognition amid Liverpool’s Premier League title challenge under manager Arne Slot.

The Egyptian forward, who is considered one of the best players in the Premier League’s history, has also been tipped to challenge for the 2025 Ballon d’Or award.

Speaking alongside Gary Neville on The Overlap US’ ‘It’s Called Soccer!’ podcast, Jamie Carragher insisted that Salah would “100 per cent” start in an all-time XI.

Neville reacts to Carragher’s Salah pick

Jamie Carragher argued that Mohamed Salah and Thierry Henry would both be in his Premier League all-time XI and the Liverpool legend snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 47-year-old Liverpool legend claimed that he would put Salah ahead of the version of Cristiano Ronaldo who played for Manchester United in his stunning first spell.

Sir Alex Ferguson brought Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford from Sporting CP in 2003 and the Portuguese forward shot to superstardom at United.

Ronaldo, who is one of the best players of all time, had a sensational first run at United and lifted the first of his five Ballon d’Or awards during his time at Old Trafford.

The 40-year-old United legend lifted three Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, an FA Cup and two League Cups under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Gary Neville hit back at Carragher’s snub of Ronaldo and called the former Juventus and Real Madrid superstar “one of the best players” to have ever played football.

“It’s not recency bias,” he said.

“It’s a guy called Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s a guy called Alan Shearer. It’s a guy called Thierry Henry. It’s a guy called Wayne Rooney. They were all decent players.

“Salah is in that class but if I’m looking at a team of 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, I’m thinking Ronaldo, Shearer, Henry, Rooney — the best players I’ve played with up front.

“Ronaldo is one of the best players to have played the game and ever lived.”

Neville snubs Salah and picks Ronaldo

United legend Neville said that Salah would not make his cut for an all-time Premier League XI and claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo would be undroppable from his picks.

The Sky Sports pundit admitted that Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and Premier League legend Alan Shearer would be part of the front three alongside Ronaldo.

“Ronaldo played in the Premier League for five or six years and that’s a long enough sample of evidence,” Neville added.

“He deserves to be in that mix. Salah should be in the conversation but Shearer is the greatest goalscorer, Henry would be [on] the left, and Ronaldo on the right.

“Ronaldo played quite a lot of times on the right wing for Manchester United in front of me and Shearer or Henry could be up front but that would mean someone would need to be on the left.

“Even if I’m picking a team that is balanced, I’d still pick Ronaldo on the right.”
