Neville and Ferdinand react to Manchester United's first half performance against Manchester City

Former Red Devils duo Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand have reacted to Manchester United’s diabolical first half performance against Manchester City.

Erik ten Hag‘s side were 4-0 down at half-time against Pep Guardiola’s Citizens.

Having won four Premier League games in a row Manchester United fans had hoped they could give their noisy neighbours a run for their money.

But how wrong were we, it was a shambolic performance by Ten Hag’s side, and the scars from the massacre at Brentford were well and truly reopened.

United were 4-0 down at the Brentford Community Stadium and history repeated itself in the derby.

Commentating live on Sky Sports, Neville said: “They’ve bottled it Manchester United. They haven’t handled this Manchester derby well whatsoever.

“No composure, nervous on the ball and they’ve been taken apart.”

Rio Ferdinand tweeted when his former club were 3-0 down and he had already made his feelings known on an appalling display.

The former Reds centre-back also revealed that he was already getting grief about the result while Manchester City seemingly had the freedom of the Etihad.

The BT Sport pundit then highlighted how far off their great rivals Manchester United really are.

For Ten Hag after enduring back-to-back defeats to kickstart his Manchester United tenure, it must have been difficult to see his side be unable to lay a glove on Pep Guardiola’s men.

It’s very much a case of back to the drawing board and the scary thought is there’s still another 45 minutes to play.
