Manchester United were well beaten by Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, with just Hannibal Mejbri providing a positive moment.

A goal in the first half was followed by two in the second half in a worrying day for Erik ten Hag.

3-0 down and no hope at all, that is the time when heroes are made in this game, which is what happened moments after Brighton scored a third.

Hannibal Mejbri took the weight of Old Trafford on his shoulders as he scored from 25 yards out.

He took the ball down, dribbled it further and then curled a delightful shot at Jason Steele’s goal.

It left the keeper no chance as the Tunisian peeled away in rabid celebration.

Reaction to Hannibal goal

Hannibal’s goal was the moment of the game from a United point of view, which offered a brief moment of hope.

Following the goal, English footballing legend Gary Lineker reacted on X.

“Hannibal lectures his more experienced teammates on how to score for Man United” he wrote.

Lineker who knows a thing or two about scoring while disguising his opinion in a pun, has a point.

United’s more senior players were painfully poor in front of goal, with the 20-year-old showing them how it’s done.

He deserves to start

With how bad some of the older midfielders were, Hannibal absolutely deserves a chance.

He has shown multiple times in cameos that he has what it takes to play for United.

In a pressure cooker that is Old Trafford when United are losing, Hannibal shone.

Therefore next weekend we want him to start, he’s earned the right.
