Gary Lineker has dropped his verdict on Marcus Rashford ahead of the Manchester United and England star’s Barcelona loan spell coming to its conclusion.

Marcus Rashford’s contract with Barcelona will expire at the end of June after the 28-year-old England ace has spent the entire season on loan at the Camp Nou.

The on-loan Manchester United star completed his sensational move to Barcelona last summer after returning from his loan spell at Aston Villa in 2025.

Rashford had fallen out of favour in the Red Devils starting XI in the 2024-25 campaign after Ruben Amorim had axed the Three Lions forward from his plans.

Gary Lineker expects one major outcome from Marcus Rashford’s Barcelona future after the Man Utd star’s loan spell

Marcus Rashford made 49 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions and the Red Devils talent netted 14 times and registered 14 assists for the La Liga outfit.

The Manchester United youth academy product was able to secure regular playing time at the Camp Nou under Barcelona manager Hansi Flick in the 2025-26 season.

Barcelona have the option to make Rashford’s move to the Camp Nou permanent in 2026, with United including a buy option at £30.3m for the England star.

Speaking on his podcast, Gary Lineker has admitted that he expects Rashford to remain at the Camp Nou after the Man Utd forward impressed at Barcelona.

“And we still don’t know what’s going to happen with, you know, this summer in terms of bringing in people, whether Marcus Rashford will stay or not,” he said on The Rest Is Football.

“Is there any further news on that? You think he will [stay]? I sense he might as well.

“That’s my feeling. I hope so. I think he deserves it. I think he’s been a perfect professional. And also, he’s made a massive impact.”

Gary Lineker thinks Barcelona and Man Utd ace Marcus Rashford could play a key role for England at the World Cup

Rashford has made Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man England squad for this summer’s World Cup and Lineker feels that the United star will have a lot to offer the Three Lions.

“Limited number of minutes [for Barcelona], but still overall, I think, which actually might be quite beneficial for England, because I think he’ll go there [the World Cup],” Lineker continued.

“You know, full of confidence, not overplayed like a lot of English players are, in a different style of football, obviously, in England.

“So, I think that could benefit England. And also, while, you know, the subjects of the World Cup and England-wise, you know, Jude Bellingham, as well, scored a cracking goal, didn’t he?

“At the weekend, and he’s not been overplayed, either, because of injuries.”

Rashford, who lifted the La Liga trophy in his debut season with Barcelona, climbed back into the England team under Thomas Tuchel when he was at Aston Villa.
