Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer were in agreement over who is the best Premier League winger of all time, despite Micah Richards arguing his case for one Manchester United legend.

Manchester United have a rich history of famous wingers and the Red Devils were spoilt for choice under legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who retired from management in 2013, had a roster of stacked talent in his United teams of the past during his legendary reign at Old Trafford.

Both part of United’s iconic No 7s, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo excelled in the Premier League as wingers and were both devastating in attack from the flank.

Ryan Giggs, who holds the most appearances for United in history, was also revered for his influence as a winger and his incredible longevity in the Premier League.

Speaking on an episode of Match of the Day Top 10, Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards sat down to rank the top 10 Premier League wingers in history.

However, Richards did not see eye to eye with fellow Rest Is Football hosts Shearer and Lineker when it came to the outright ‘GOAT’ winger in the Premier League.

Lineker and Shearer agree on Man Utd legend

Both Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer argued that Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs should top the list of the best wingers in Premier League history.

Giggs spent his entire playing career at Old Trafford and the 50-year-old Welshman had a sensational impact under former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Despite his prime years being out on the wing, Giggs adapted his playing style and moved towards a more central role towards the later stages of his United career.

Micah Richards, on the other hand, argued that Cristiano Ronaldo should rank as the best winger in Premier League history after his stunning first spell at United.

Ronaldo had a remarkable spell at United under Ferguson, with the 39-year-old Portuguese forward producing sensational performances as a winger.

The Al Nassr superstar superbly linked up with Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez as part of a deadly attack at United, with Ronaldo thriving in his first spell at the club.

Ronaldo, who lifted his first Ballon d’Or at United, left Old Trafford in 2009 and completed a blockbuster transfer to La Liga side Real Madrid.

Speaking to Lineker and Shearer, Richards said: “He was unplayable at times, though, Ronaldo, wasn’t he?

“Ronaldo’s gotta be No 1. Ronaldo, come on. He won three titles in six years.”

Responding to Richards, Lineker explained: “Well, you’ve gone basically who is the best rather than who is the best in the Premier League.”

Shearer added: “Best player, yeah, No 1 [is] Ronaldo, but this is best wingers.”

Lineker, Shearer and Richards’ top 10 wingers

Despite Richards’ argument for Ronaldo, Giggs was named as the No 1 winger in Premier League history on Match of the Day’s rankings.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah finished behind Giggs in second, with Ronaldo taking home the third spot in the top 10.

Ex-Chelsea star Eden Hazard and United legend Beckham finished fourth and fifth respectively as part of the combined rankings from Lineker, Shearer and Richards.

Former Tottenham ace Gareth Bale finished sixth and ex-Liverpool star Sadio Mane ranked seventh, while Arsenal legend Robert Pires came eighth in the list.

Closing out the top 10 rankings were Liverpool legend John Barnes in the No 9 spot and ex-Leicester City and Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez finishing in No 10.
