Frenkie de Jong's advisors are pushing him to take Manchester United move
Frenkie de Jong’s future has been the subject of plenty of speculation over the past two months and an announcement is expected shortly.
De Jong’s intentions remain a little unclear. In interviews he has talked up his love for Barcelona, and newspaper Sport this week suggested he was dragging his heels over a move.
A new update from Sport claims De Jong’s advisors have suggested to the midfielder that a move to Manchester United is in his interests.
Frenkie de Jong’s advisors are pushing him to take Manchester United move
Sport report De Jong’s advisors have recommended a move to Manchester United is better for him than staying at Barcelona.
The newspaper states: “His environment is also pressuring him to accept United’s proposal, knowing that Barça has opened the door for him and that he is no longer a franchise player for the club. They understand that it is the best for his career.”
It adds De Jong is still reluctant – although this is at odds with a claim in The Guardian which reports the midfielder is ‘open to a move’ to rejoining Erik ten Hag.
De Jong is said to expect a high salary at United, and the Red Devils can afford it, having freed up nearly £45 million in wages by releasing Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Lee Grant.
The Telegraph reported United hoped to tie up a deal for De Jong by the end of this week, and the Red Devils certainly want a resolution in time for the club’s pre-season tour, with the first match being held in Thailand on July 13.
De Jong is Erik ten Hag’s top midfield target, and getting a deal over the line would represent a significant step forward in the club’s summer plans.
