Di’Shon Bernard has made his international debut for Jamaica after being released from his Manchester United contract.
Life can be difficult for footballers released from their contracts. One way to move forward is to play international football and put yourself in the shop window.
This is exactly what Di’Shon Bernard did this week when he made his full international debut for Jamaica.
He starred at centre-back in the Gold Cup in a 4-1 victory over Trinidad and Tobago.

Di’Shon Bernard starts for Jamaica
Di’Shon Bernard was one of seven footballers released by Manchester United on June 30.
He has had loan spells at Salford City, Hull City, and most recently Portsmouth, but was not going to make the jump up to Manchester United’s first team.
The 22-year-old centre-back played once for Manchester United in 2019, against Astana. He had previously been in Chelsea’s academy.
Now, Bernard is a free agent, and his exploits at the Gold Cup for Jamaica could help him.
He played all 90 minutes in a side featuring Premier League stars Michail Antonio, Leon Bailey, and Demarai Gray, and he did not look out of place, with his side winning 4-1.
Jamaica are placed second in their group with a game to go before the knockout stages.
Playing at the tournament will help Bernard’s chances of finding a new club, however, it is a little bit of a risk in case he were to suffer an injury.
Hopefully the gamble pays off. He has proven already that he can play at Championship level, and he should be able to secure a good move this summer.
