Fred arrived at Manchester United for £47million (BBC) last summer, but has so far struggled for game time.
While he has shown glimpses of his ability, the Brazilian has quickly fallen out of favour.
Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba are the undisputed first-choice trio in United’s midfield. But Andreas Pereira should never get in ahead of Fred.
The United youth product has fans at Old Trafford. Yet there is little to justify the hype. Pereira is not cut out for the Premier League and, at 23, time is running out to prove himself.
Pereira’s performance against Burnley last month spoke volumes. He is a neat and tidy footballer with a great eye for a pass. Yet he does not have the skill set to succeed in the Premier League.
Fred, on the other hand, can excel with time and patience. Just like Victor Lindelof before him, the Brazilian’s issue is transition, not ability.
Pereira has never looked good in a United shirt. He was woeful against Brighton and barely any better against Burnley.
In contrast, Fred has shown moments of brilliance; most notably his burst forward for United’s opening goal against Reading in the FA Cup.
The £47million man is a cut above Pereira and should not be overlooked for the younger Brazilian again.
