Four shots and four goals: Anthony Martial has a 100 per cent scoring rate this season, and how Ronaldo compares

Manchester United fans have become recently used to the wildly errant finishing of Cristiano Ronaldo this season.

Anthony Martial has barely played, but when he has, he has been a welcome breath of fresh air.

The Frenchman returned from injury at the weekend and started against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup. Predictably, he was back on the scoresheet.

Martial has now scored four goals this season, with this strike following up a brace against Manchester City and an effort from outside the box against Omonia in Cyprus.

Lethal Martial

Remarkably, Martial’s incredible efficiency has seen him score from every single shot he has taken this season.

Four goals from four shots shows how lethal the forward is in front of goal, and shows how United need him to stay fit.

While this 100 per cent scoring rate will balance out, he will miss chances at some stage, right now it is worth noting; Martial deserves credit for doing a lot with little.

How Ronaldo compares

Ronaldo has scored fewer goals than Martial this season, with only three. One of these was a penalty.

At the same time, Ronaldo has also been inefficient. His tally of three goals have come from a staggering 56 attempts.

Ronaldo is the greatest goalscorer of all time, statistically. He will be looking to extend his international record at the World Cup too.

At club level, he has regressed this season. Manchester United fans are bearing witness to it on a weekly basis.

Anthony Martial is offering a welcome alternative. He has achieved nothing like the success Ronaldo has had on a wide scale – but in the right here and now, he is a better option for the Red Devils up front, providing he can stay fit.
