Four MUTV pundits are all in total agreement over Marcus Rashford red card for Man Utd v Copenhagen

Manchester United were reduced to 10 men against Copenhagen after Marcus Rashford was sent off.

The Red Devils were 2-0 up when the decision was given and saw the lead vanish within minutes as Copenhagen brought the game level to 2-2 before half-time.

Marcus Rashford was judged to have made a dangerous foul which was picked up by VAR (of course) and given a straight red card. United went on to lose the game 4-3.

While TNT Sport commentator Robbie Savage insisted the red card was the right decision, saying, ‘I cannot defend that’, there was a view different view on Manchester United’s in-house broadcaster.

MUTV pundits blast red card decision

There was total agreement on MUTV over the incident which changed the game, with the referee’s decision derided as harsh.

Radio commentator Andy Ritchie said: “Yes he catches him and he misses the ball by miles but he’s not trying to tackle the guys with the ball he’s trying to protect the ball. It could be seen both ways but the referee has got to have a bit of common sense.

“If Manchester United have the same number of players on the pitch as Copenhagen we win that game. An absolute farce and total joke for me tonight.”

In the studio Wes Brown added: “His foot lands on his ankle and on any slow-mo yes it looks bad, but when you are watching the play, how its going, he doesn’t know his legs there, he’s using his body to protect the ball, it’s very unfortunate for me he’s been sent off. If anything, yellow.”

Former United striker Dion Dublin echoed these comments: “I don’t get it. I know he’s caught him on the ankle, a yellow card I would accept. A red card at this stage of the game I don’t understand.”

Matchday commentator Ben Thornley voiced his frustration too, adding: “I don’t understand what the VAR’s playing at asking the referee to go and look at that. He’s already seen it and did not think there was any malice in it, not to give a red card.”

A number of other big names in football including Ian Wright also slammed the decision to send off Marcus Rashford.

Marcus Rashford faces suspension

Marcus Rashford has been handed a one-game Champions League suspension from this red card. This means he will miss the away tie at Galatasaray at the end of November.

Rashford will be available for the final game at Old Trafford against Bayern Munich. The stakes for that game will depend on how Manchester United get on in Turkey without him.
