Dermot Gallagher has made his feelings clear on whether or not Andre Onana was fouled during Wolves’ opener against Manchester United in the 2-0 defeat.
Manchester United are precariously positioned in 14th place in the Premier League table after failing to secure valuable points on their trip to the Molineux.
The Red Devils went into half-time with a 0-0 scoreline against Wolves before Ruben Amorim’s men collapsed in their second-half performance on Thursday.
Bruno Fernandes was sent off only two minutes after the break and Matheus Cunha then broke the deadlock in the 58th minute with his stunning corner kick.
Matheus Cunha, who has been heavily linked with United, would then set up Hwang Hee-chan and the South Korean buried the ball past Andre Onana in injury time.
Wolves are 17th in the Premier League table after Thursday’s 2-0 win and Vitor Pereira’s men are only seven points behind the Red Devils.
Gallagher on Onana’s foul corner from corner kick
Manchester United once again showed their vulnerabilities from set pieces under Ruben Amorim during their Premier League visit to the Molineux.
Matheus Cunha’s corner for Wolves in the second half flew straight over Andre Onana’s head and the ball landed in the far corner of the United net.
Onana was visibly furious after United conceded and protested with referee Tony Harrington that he had been fouled during the corner.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, Dermot Gallagher reacted to the incident and said that Wolves full-back Matt Doherty did not intentionally interfere with Onana.
“No. Matt Doherty has every right to stand where he does,” he explained.
“He doesn’t do anything wrong. He’s allowed to hold his ground.
“Onana actually pushes Doherty in the back, and Doherty makes no movement towards him.
“There is an arm from Doherty but his starting position was there, he didn’t back up and move backwards.”
Amorim reacts to Man Utd set-piece problem
Amorim oversaw United’s weakness from set pieces only last week after Altay Bayindir conceded from a corner in the 4-3 Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham.
United face a tough test against Newcastle at Old Trafford on Monday before travelling to Anfield on 5th January for their first match of 2025 against Liverpool.
Speaking after the 2-0 defeat to Wolves at the Molineux, Amorim made his position clear on Altay Bayindir and Onana conceding from corner kicks.
“The same way I saw Tottenham,” he said at his post-match press conference.
“Something that when you are jumping, the slightest touch was in the arm and now it is the back.
“When you touch someone when they are jumping it is really hard with the ball, to catch the ball. That is it.”
