Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has attempted to explain why Darwin Nunez was not sent off for Liverpool during the draw with Manchester United.
Diogo Dalot was sent off for Manchester United with just three minutes remaining on the clock as the Portuguese defender’s outburst meant Michael Oliver dismissed him, which led to Erik ten Hag remonstrating with the fourth official.
The decision was a rather ludicrous one, especially after what Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez had done in the first half without any repercussions.
After a strong, albeit late challenge, on Jonny Evans, he was booked before he proceeded to boot the ball away and yell at Oliver but, perhaps unsurprisingly, the Uruguayan received no second yellow card.

Gallagher on Nunez
Well, speaking on Sky Sports News Ref Watch, former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has given his verdict on why the former SL Benfica forward was not sent off.
“It’s such a difficult decision for the referee because it isn’t an exact science,” Gallagher said when pushed for an answer on why Nunez was not sent off.
“Whichever way I jump, I’m going to be told I’m wrong.
“I think in the current climate, he has no choice (with Dalot). The first booking was about the throw-in dissent, the second was for the aftermath. I get where people are coming from with their frustration over it (Nunez) but at the end of the day, the referee decided not to send him off.”
It was a rather poor attempt from the former referee to explain why the Uruguayan was sent off, yet Dalot, for an offense softer than Nunez, was dismissed.
United have to appeal
Some of the decisions that the Red Devils have had to see go against them this season have been ludicrous and you wonder whether Ten Hag should speak up.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has come out in the past and has complained about the refereeing decisions that have gone against them and that has worked. Mikel Arteta has done something similar, too.
Ten Hag has to do something similar. It’s not the best thing to do but the reality is that the Red Devils are not getting any decisions in their favour, something needs to be done.
