Former Manchester United youngster Dylan Levitt celebrated being named in Wales’ World Cup squad by scoring for Dundee United last night.
The 22-year-old midfielder, who spent last season on loan with The Tangerines, joined the Scottish Premiership side on a permanent deal in the summer.
With his contract set to expire at the end of June, the Red Devils trigged a 12-month extension in the Welshman’s deal which enabled United to recoup a small fee following his move to Tannadice Park.
Playing regular first team football and putting himself in a good position to form part of Robert Page’s 26-man squad for Qatar would have had a huge bearing on his decision to seek a permanent exit from the twenty-time league champions.
Having briefly featured against eventual winners Italy in last summer’s European Championships, the 13-time Wales international will now experience going to a World Cup for the first time.
Dundee United’s number 19 has been named in the Dragons squad that contains the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Gareth Bale and fellow former Red Devil Dan James.

Just hours after knowing he was heading to the Middle East later this month, Levitt scored the Tangerines’ fourth goal in a 4-0 win against Kilmarnock last night.
It was the former Manchester United Academy graduate’s second goal in as many matches after he scored an equaliser against Celtic on Saturday before the Hoops went on to win 4-2.
Levitt showcased his technical prowess with his goal against Kilmarnock – slotting the ball into the near bottom corner first time from just outside the penalty area.
Speaking about Levitt’s performance against Kilmarnock and his World Cup call-up, Dundee United boss Liam Fox praised the former Manchester United man who made one solitary appearance for the Reds first team.
Fox said: “Great day for him. Top player – showed some real quality tonight – great finish to cap it off.”
Levitt, who could face Gareth Southgate’s England in Qatar, has three goals and one assist to his name from 17 appearances this season.
