Former Manchester United prospect Luca Ercolani has signed for a new club after his old one were kicked out of the Italian league.

Ercolani was sold by Manchester United in January 2021 when he signed with Serie C side Carpi.

After making his professional debut, he signed with Catania, in the same division. And this was where it began to go wrong.

Catania were expelled from Italian football in April after going bankrupt, Football Italia reported. All of their players, included Ercolani, had their contracts terminated.

Luca Ercolani finds new side

After spending three months as a free agent, Ercolani has found a new club in the familiar confines of Serie C.

Ercolani has signed a deal with Fidelis Andria 2018, a team which rebranded in the year referenced in their name, after financial difficulties.

For young defender Luca Ercolani, he is thankful to find a new club and start work again. It isn’t at a high level, but he won’t be under any illusions about that.

Ercolani suffered an ACL injury in 2020 which hampered his progress, during which time he studied for his coaching badges, planning for a life after his playing days.

The 22-year-old will want to extend his playing career as long as possible if he can. He has 30 appearances in Serie C under his belt so far.

The centre-back was a former Italy under-20 international with five caps, after United signed him from Serie D side Forli in 2016.
