Jose Mourinho should make another transfer swoop on his former club, according to former Man Utd and Chelsea midfielder Ray Wilkins.
Wilkins, who also worked as a coach at Stamford Bridge, has said that Mourinho should sign Brazilian winger Willian – while at the same time admitting that he is ‘praying’ that he doesn’t.
Wilkins was speaking to Sporting Bet and dismissed rumours that Mesut Ozil is set to move to United. “Mesut Ozil won’t go to Old Trafford because he doesn’t have the work ethic that Mourinho looks for in his players,” Wilkins told Sporting Bet. “I actually see Willian as being the likely player to head to Old Trafford. Jose is an enormous admirer of Willian and he would be a special signing for United, but I pray that Chelsea don’t let him go.”
Willian is certainly the type of player who would suit United’s system, especially on that problem right hand side. He has the consistency and the work-rate which please the United boss, and his lack of game time at Chelsea should theoretically make him a player they could sell on. However, considering Nemanja Matic’s success at Old Trafford, it seems unlikely that Antonio Conte will allow United to snare a second player away from the champions.
