Nemanja Matic’s spell at Rennes is going from bad to worse with the former Manchester United and Premier League enforcer at the centre of accusations regarding his supposedly ‘incomprehensible behaviour’.
Despite featuring pretty regularly for the Ligue 1 outfit, it appears that it is issues off the pitch – rather than on it – which look destined to bring a very early and rather explosive end to the Serbian’s ill-fated Stade de Rennais career.
Nemanja Matic, who departed Manchester United back in 2022, has reportedly been left very disappointed by what he feels are ‘unkept promises’ at Roazhon Park.
Get France Football News reports that the 35-year-old is even thinking about retiring from professional football after just five months on French soil.

Nemanja Matic facing Rennes exit already
And Rennes have now hit back at the veteran midfielder, Matic absent from training and seemingly having played his last game for Les Rouges et Noirs already.
“Nemanja Matic did not show up for the last training sessions to which he was summoned. This behaviour is completely incomprehensible from an experienced player under contract until 2025,” reads a statement published on the Rennes website.
“Naturally sensitive to the personal well-being of its players, the club intends to recall that all the arrangements necessary for the good integration of Nemanja Matić and his entourage have been carried out in perfect transparency.
“Stade Rennais FC has always done everything possible to put its players, especially foreigners, in the best possible conditions so that they can express their talent on the pitch. The SRFC is now awaiting explanations from the player and is determined to then take all necessary measures to preserve its interests.”
Former Man United man in a difficult position
Matic, who joined Man United from Premier League rivals Chelsea in a deal worth £40 million seven years ago, has reportedly offered himself to Roma (Leggo). Should the Gialorrosi jump at such an opportunity, that would see Jose Mourinho reunite yet again with a player he worked with in 2021/22, not to mention at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford.
