Several late exits are expected from Manchester United before the transfer deadline comes to a close.

United confirmed Ethan Galbraith has departed, signing on loan with Salford City.

Galbraith has signed on a season long deal with with the League Two club, co-owned by the Class of ’92.

The 21-year-old midfielder spent last season on loan with Doncaster Rovers in League One.

Ethan Galbraith to Salford

Galbraith had become a forgotten figure at Manchester United, left off the club’s pre-season tour, although he did train with the first team in mid-August.

He did not play at all in pre-season and he has not been involved in the under-21 side, with United preferring to give chances to younger players.

The Northern Ireland international may have hoped for a bigger move than Salford, after playing in the higher division last season, making 27 starts.

Doncaster were relegated, however, and playing for a side currently positioned fourth in the League Two table after six games may be a far more enjoyable experience for him.

Galbraith needs game time, and is under contract with Manchester United until 2023, with the Red Devils having an option to extend that by an extra year.

He has played one first team game for United, against Astana in 2019. United probably would have been open to permanent offers if bids came in.

In the end, a loan deal was a middle ground. It’s now up to Galbraith to prove himself and kickstart his career and open up further opportunities for himself.
