It’s been a while since the name Federico Macheda was mentioned in the same breath as Manchester United.

There may never have been a player to have spent so little time at Old Trafford, but still have a lasting impact. He scored that wondergoal against Aston Villa all those years ago to keep Manchester United‘s Premier League dreams firmly alive that season.

Since then, he’s had a bit of a fall from grace. He’s bounced around European clubs and has eventually ended up in the Super Lig in Turkey – where he’s struggled.

However, after meeting up and posting a picture with former teammate Nani after the two clashed last week – Federico Macheda got back in goalscoring form in his last encounter.

Federico Macheda is back among the goals

Out of 11 matches this season, the Italian had only started two. He had one goal in this time, playing just 329 minutes of football for Ankaragucu.

That was until Thursday when Macheda was trusted with a rare start in the Super Lig. He rewarded his manager, by scoring a goal in a 2-0 victory against Fatih Karagumruk.

The 32-year-old had his best game all season – reflected in his stats.

This was a serious breakthrough for Macheda, who has struggled since he arrived at Ankaragucu. He has just six goals in two years which included a loan spell at APOEL Nicosia.

Federico Macheda takes to Instagram

The Italian was delighted, taking to Instagram to express his joy at a rare goal.

‘Everything comes to you at the right time!!! We keep pushing for more,’ he writes.

A man who gave Manchester United fans a moment they’ll never forget. We wish Federico the best of luck for the rest of the season!
