Feyenoord star says he is ‘proud’ of Tyrell Malacia’s big impact at Manchester United

Tyrell Malacia has been a big hit for Manchester United since signing from Feyenoord in the summer transfer window.

The left-back has already displaced Luke Shaw as first choice left-back, and his impact has not gone unnoticed back in the Netherlands.

Earlier this week he was tipped to be first choice at the World Cup for his country and displaced international regular Daley Blind.

Now his former Feyenoord teammate Orkun Kokcu has been talking up his former teammate.

Kokcu proud of Malacia

Kokcu, 21, told ESPN quoted by FR12.nl that he is in regular contact with Malacia and is delighted to see how well he is playing for Manchester United.

He said: “‘I still have daily contact with Malacia. I also just got in touch and tonight I have a FaceTime call scheduled with him, so I’m going to have a little chat with him.

“I often tell him that I am proud of him. Last year I spent every day with him. We also started training for ourselves outside the club. I saw him every day and we try to keep up with that with video calling.”

The Turkey international has been made Feyenoord club captain and is in no rush to follow Malacia out the door, commenting: “I want to pop for another season and show myself better.”

Manchester United’s move for Malacia is already looking like one of the Premier League’s biggest bargains, with the full-back costing just £13 million.

Feyenoord will likely look at the fee and wonder if they should have pushed for more. But they left themselves in a tricky spot after accepting a bid from Lyon, before United matched it.

The Dutch defender then made clear he wanted to go to United, and snubbed the move to Ligue 1. His value could rocket further if he stars at the World Cup, and make the Red Devils’ deal look even better.
