Feyenoord boss Arne Slot has congratulated Erik ten Hag on his imminent move to manage Manchester United.

The Telegraph is reporting Ten Hag to United is ’99 per cent done’, with The Athletic reporting a ‘verbal agreement’ between manager and club.

Rival manager Slot was asked about the speculation linking Ten Hag to Old Trafford at a press conference on Wednesday.

He believes Ten Hag’s impending switch to United is a positive step for Dutch football.

Slot told Voetball International: “If the reports are correct, it is absolutely worth congratulating.

“It is very special that a Dutch trainer will soon be at the helm of such a large club. That is also a very good thing for the Dutch trainers’ guild.”

Slot’s name has also been put forward in discussion with replacing Ten Hag at Ajax, with Marco van Basten recommending him for the role (Ziggo Sport via FC Update).

He was quick to distance himself from the speculation, commenting: “I’ve said many times that I can’t even imagine it. How much clearer do I have to be?

“This is a fantastic time to coach Feyenoord. We’re playing the quarterfinals of the Conference League! I hope I’ve made it clear again now. Use this answer as long as Ajax has not been able to find a new trainer.”

Ten Hag has yet to comment publicly on the reports, and when he was quizzed at the weekend he did everything to evade the questioning.

With Ajax playing in the Dutch Cup final this weekend, his desire to focus solely on his current job is sensible; a huge game awaits against PSV Eindhoven, with a trophy up for grabs.
