FC Sheriff Tiraspol boss explains how his side could upset Erik ten Hag's Manchester United

FC Sheriff Tiraspol boss Stjepan Tomas has explained how his side could upset Erik ten Hag‘s Manchester United in Thursday’s Europa League clash.

After losing 1-0 to La Liga side Real Sociedad at Old Trafford last Thursday, the Dutchman will be hoping to get the Red Devils European charge back on track by gaining three points in Moldova.

Thursday’s clash at the Sheriff Stadium kicks off at 5:45pm and the game will be shown live on BT Sport.

Unlike the twenty-time league champions, Tomas’ side head into the Europa League second matchday having played at the weekend.

Speaking after Sheriff’s 2-0 win against FC Milsami Orhei in the Moldova Super Liga last night, Tomas was asked about his side’s chances against the biggest club in the world.

Tomas said: “Manchester is the most famous team in the world. They didn’t play this week. We need to prepare ourselves and try to take advantage of the chances that will be.

“The most important thing is how we play defence. We’re going to have our moments. There may not be many of them. But we must use the small chances that will appear.”

After beating Real Madrid last season in the Champions League, Tomas doesn’t believe his side will be overawed by facing Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Tomas added: “It’s a big motivation to play against a team like that. Will Ronaldo play or not. Last year we beat Real Madrid.

“Now we have an experienced team. We have already played a lot of matches in the Champions League, the Europa League. I think we have experience.”

Aside from being beaten by Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League third qualifying round, Sheriff have made an unbeaten start to the campaign and sit top of the Moldova top-flight with 17 points from seven matches.
