Manchester United fans will have to wait a bit longer to see their team in action. But the Bundesliga’s return means some could see an alleged target in action this weekend.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are targeting Rabbi Matondo as an alternative to Jadon Sancho. The 19-year-old signed for Schalke for £11.3million in 2019.

While he is yet to have the same kind of impact at Sancho in Germany, Matondo has plenty of potential.

The fact that he would also be considerably cheaper than the England international is no doubt appealing. After all, United surprised a few with the signing of Dan James last summer and Matondo could be a similar recruit.

The reported United target started Saturday’s game on the bench but came on at half-time. By then his side were 2-0 down against a free-flowing Borussia Dortmund and he could not change the tide.

A final score of 4-0 left Matondo and his teammates disappointed. And the right winger’s second-half showing prompted a mixed response from United supporters and others around the world.

Given the nature of football right now, it would be unfair to judge the teenager too harshly. United have a history of turning rough diamonds into stars. But only time will tell if Matondo arrives and follows the same route.

Here is how some fans reacted to the reported United target’s performance:
