Fans react to Marcus Rashford’s lacklustre display vs Andorra, they’re in agreement over Man Utd loanee

England recorded a fourth successive qualifying victory ahead of the 2026 World Cup, beating Andorra 2-0 at Villa Park on Saturday.

Marcus Rashford was named in the England starting line-up against Andorra in their World Cup qualifier.

Although on loan at Barcelona, Rashford was the only Manchester United player called up to Thomas Tuchel’s latest squad.

Prior to today, Rashford’s last start for England came in a 3-0 win over Latvia on 24 March 2015. Tuchel took the forward off at half-time following an underwhelming performance.

Rashford was given another chance to impress the German coach against Andorra, but the United loanee failed to have an impact, despite England securing another win on their quest to the World Cup next summer.

The first half was a quiet affair for Rashford, except for a few glimpses of promise on the left flank for England.

Rashford started the game encouragingly, beating Andorran full-back Biel Borra twice to get into the penalty area. Luckily for the visitors, they had covering players to stop the threat.

In the 16th minute, Rashford made a clever run from a deep position, but was unable to control a pass from Declan Rice.

He had no part to play in England’s opening goal and offered little for the remainder of the first half.

Rashford missed a glorious opportunity to score in the 49th minute when he had plenty of time to execute his finish. Noni Madueke jinked past two Andorra defenders and found Eberechi Eze, who forced a save from Iker Alvarez. The rebound fell for Rashford but his attempt curled wide of the goal.

The 27-year-old was replaced by Tuchel in the 68th minute when Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon was introduced, with the scoreline 2-0 in England’s favour.

Just like the opener, Rashford had no involvement in the second goal and he was taken off immediately after Rice found the back of the net.

United fans were quick to criticise Rashford’s display as he continued to see his first goal contribution of the 2025/26 campaign for club and country.

Should Rashford continue to make upcoming England squads, Tuchel will face questions about his form because he failed to take advantage of another unwarranted start.
