Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay had one of the best 2019s of any of the squad.
While other United players regressed, he got better as the season went on, defying his critics.
His performances have seen him become a starter at international level for Scotland. Last night he faced a difficult task in action against Belgium.
McTominay’s Scotland were well beaten, losing 3-0 with United teammate Romelu Lukaku netting a brace.
McTominay’s game followed the theme of his season. He started nervously and in the first half he could have done better for the goal and got closer to Lukaku.
In the second half he came out fired up, knocking Thorgan Hazard to the turf almost instantly.
Scotland never really stood a chance against Belgium, but McTominay grew into the game and showed some good touches.
United need more from him next season. His two goals against Wolves and Huddersfield were an encouraging sign.
Now he will head off on his break and rest up ahead of pre-season, when he should have some more competition in midfield from new signings.
