Facundo Pellistri was a late substitute in Manchester United’s friendly defeat against Atletico Madrid in Oslo.
But after being hacked down as he looked to clear United’s defensive lines with a run upfield, he landed awkwardly and had to be helped off.
Pellistri did not complete the game, with United losing 1-0 to a late Joao Felix strike, the team’s first defeat of pre-season.
The Uruguayan has confirmed the nature of his injury – but also insists it is not serious.

Facundo Pellistri confirms twisted ankle
Pellistri used Twitter to relay news of his injury to Manchester United supporters, saying it was a ‘pity’ he could not complete the game.
United are not expected to risk Pellistri as a starter against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday at Old Trafford, and this is a shame for him because Erik ten Hag said some of the substitutes might be involved.
Ten Hag explained, via the club website: “The players who played today from the start, they will not come on tomorrow. So tomorrow we will have a different starting XI. But there are players who came on who can start tomorrow.”
Cristiano Ronaldo could be involved after training at Carrington earlier today. He has not played a single pre-season game so far.
United’s game against Rayo kicks off at 4pm on Sunday. It’s likely new signing Christian Eriksen will feature after coming off the bench against Atletico. Lisandro Martinez could also make his debut.
Pellistri’s own future is uncertain. He has looked bright in the limited pre-season minutes he has had, scoring against Liverpool. But it is possible he still ends up being sent out on loan.
