Ruben Amorim got a shot of adrenaline with Manchester United’s win against Chelsea, and Fabrizio Romano now reports one player has gone up in his estimation.
The 2-1 win against Chelsea was much-needed because the narrative around Man Utd and Ruben Amorim’s future had reached fever-pitch.
Amorim’s system looked threatening, the players were clearly giving their all for the manager, and the Man Utd fans smelled blood at Old Trafford after a very long time.
As per Fabrizio Romano, the events of the game were set in motion before the game itself, with what one player did, in particular, catching the eye of the Man Utd manager.

Ruben Amorim impressed with Harry Maguire
When the teamsheet for the game dropped, many fans were exasperated by the exclusion of Leny Yoro, who has been near-faultless to start the season.
Harry Maguire came into the XI in his place, and by the end of the game, he reaffirmed why every manager rates him highly.
While performance on the pitch is important, Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, said Maguire went up in Amorim’s estimation due to what he did before the game.
Maguire spoke before the game in a public interview where he took responsibility for bad results, taking away the glare from the manager’s system and putting it squarely on the players.
Romano said: “Very honest quotes by Harry Maguire on the situation of Amorim before the Chelsea game. He said it’s about the players, it’s not about the system, or the tactical point of view.
“Ruben Amorim really appreciates the mentality of Maguire. People at the club really respect what he is trying to do for the young players arriving at the club.
“He has a very good relationship with Amorim because to see a player like Maguire go public before the Chelsea game, there was a lot of pressure if United lost that game.
So Maguire saying it’s about the players, not the system, was big. That was a big quote. This shows the integrity of Harry Maguire.”
Maguire has a clear future at Man Utd
Maguire’s contract at Old Trafford ends next summer, and he’s on about £200k/week, so the negotiations for a new deal won’t be straightforward.
At the same time, the player knows this is the biggest club he will play for in the rest of his career, and the club appreciate Maguire for his qualities on and off the pitch.
If he takes a pay cut in exchange for a longer contract, then that could be beneficial for all parties involved.
Maguire gets to stay at a big club and take on a mentorship role, while United get a steady rotational presence and dressing-room leadership in the form of a model professional.
Considering the mutual respect between the two parties, it shouldn’t be that difficult to come to an agreement.
