Donny van de Beek shone in pre-season
Donny van de Beek was the surprise star of Manchester United’s pre-season campaign so far. If new signing Mason Mount had made the contribution he had done, there would be big headlines about his fantastic start.
Van de Beek scored one goal, a volley against Lyon, and then provided two assists during Manchester United’s tour of the USA.
His form may have provided Van de Beek with a little of a lifeline – although according to these latest reports, it could e too little too late, simply placing the Dutchman in the shop window.

Manchester United decision due
A decision is now due from Manchester United over Donny van de Beek’s exit. The club must decide whether to sell him permanently, or send him out on loan.
For all Van de Beek’s contribution in pre-season, he needs to play regularly, rather than spend the season as a bit-part player, again.
He has started a paltry six Premier League games for the club since signing back in 2020. Van de Beek’s more recent struggles have been injury related, rather than simply non-selection.
Manager Erik ten Hag knows what the midfielder is capable of from his time at Ajax, and may prefer a loan, to see if Van de Beek can rediscover his confidence.
However, with United looking for permanent sales to boost transfer funds, a decision could be made to cash in. Much will depend quite simply on what Real Sociedad are able to offer.
