Manchester United’s interest in Matheus Cunha is developing quickly. First reported by Julien Laurens, a report from The Mail has also backed up the possible move.

Talksport then took a leap forward, reporting United are closing in on a £42 million move for the Atletico Madrid striker.

All three reports claim Cunha is keen to join United, and it looks like this deal could get over the line.

United are looking for a striker to add to the mix with Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo, whose future remains unclear.

Fabrizio Romano update on Matheus Cunha

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has given his steer on the Matheus Cunha to Manchester United rumours.

He says no deal has been agreed, but talks have taken place between United and Cunha’s agents.

Cunha signed for Atletico Madrid from Hertha Berlin a year ago. He struggled for game time, making only eight La Liga starts.

Still only 23, Cunha’s best years are ahead of him, something you usually can’t say about Manchester United’s striker targets, who are usually over 30.

A price tag of £40 million would be high, considering his moderate goal record. He scored only seven in all competitions last season and has only reached double figures for a club once in his career so far.
