Manchester United striker Anthony Martial could yet leave the club this month, says Fabrizio Romano.
One reason Manchester United have been unable to sign a striker this month is connected to Anthony Martial staying at the club.
Martial’s expensive salary is preventing United bringing in another forward on loan, and so far is has not looked like he is heading for the exit door.
Martial is currently out with an injury, he has not made an appearance since mid-December.

Anthony Martial future
Manchester United fans should not give up on the prospect of being stuck with Anthony Martial until the end of the season.
As always, it’s the hope that kills you. Anthony Martial is a player United should have been rid of two years ago.
Fabrizio Romano told The United Stand: “I think he’s still open to leaving the club in January in case an important opportunity will come. And I also think it’s still normal to wait to this point.
“He believes in the next weeks something can happen in terms of important clubs trying to sign him. I think the Martial situation remains quite open. He could be open to leaving in January.”
Erik ten Hag sounded frustrated when he discussed Anthony Martial’s future last week, and urged him to push to get fit to help the team.
Martial contract set to expire
Anthony Martial’s contract will expire at the end of the season and there are no plans to renew his deal, David Ornstein reports.
United sent him on loan to Sevilla two seasons ago, hoping the Spanish side might be minded to buy him permanently.
However, a disastrous injury-hit loan spell led to his return, before Erik ten Hag made his first mistake of his spell at the club, by putting his faith in the Frenchman, only to see him let him down amid an injury-hit season.
This time around he has been used sparingly, and has scored one Premier League goal in 13 appearances. However, he has not played a single minute since December 9.
