Former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo may have suffered a potential serious injury just minutes after missing a penalty.
Having missed the last four games due to a calf injury, the 32-year-old was back in Boca Juniors’ starting line-up for last night’s Argentina Primera Division clash at Sarmiento.
In the 25th minute, Boca’s number six saw his penalty kick saved by Sarmiento goalkeeper Sebastian Meza.

Just three minutes after missing the spot kick and Rojo was down grimacing.
With nobody challenging Rojo, the first signs are it looked like one of those innocuous injuries where his studs have got stuck in the ground.
After going to ground, Rojo made a signal to the bench and was clutching his right knee.
In April 2017, in a Europa League quarter-final second leg against Anderlecht, Rojo suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury against the Belgian side for Manchester United and he was out of action for seven months.

With a mixture of feelings after the victory and his injury, Rojo told the club’s website: “I feel sad for that play, everything indicates that it is the ligament. Tomorrow, I have to do the resonance, let’s hope it’s nothing.”
The 61-time Argentina international, who made 122 appearances for Manchester United and won two Community Shields alongside the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup, joined Boca from the twenty-time league champions in February 2021.

After impressing at the 2014 World Cup, Louis van Gaal signed the fiery Argentine from Sporting Lisbon, in a deal which saw Nani return to the Portuguese giants on loan.
Rojo’s former Argentina teammate Sergio Aguero has sent a message of support to the defender on Instagram.
Manchester City’s all-time top scorer wrote on his Instagram story: “Come on Pa, Come on you’re going to come back with everything. I bank you full friend.”
