One former Premier League goalkeeper has a score-settling showdown with Wayne Rooney in his sights.

Wayne Rooney is currently enjoying life as a football pundit, having experienced management at four clubs, including Derby County, D.C. United, Birmingham City and Plymouth Argyle.

The 39-year-old holds the record for scoring the most goals for United, after hitting the back of the net 253 times during his 13 years at Old Trafford.

Rooney left United in 2017 to return to Everton before finishing his playing career at D.C. United and Derby County.

Although Rooney would like to manage United one day, the former England captain is spending most of his time working on Match of the Day and podcasts these days. It remains to be seen if he will ever return to the dugout.

Paddy Kenny wants to fight Wayne Rooney

Rooney could enter the boxing ring before he returns to the dugout as a football manager.

After spending his early years on Merseyside in boxing gyms, Rooney has never hidden his deep passion for the combat sport.

United fans will also remember the viral video of Rooney punching former teammate Phil Bardsley in his kitchen.

This has led to Rooney being discussed as a potential candidate for Mifits Boxing, but he’s always put football first, as a player and a manager.

Rooney has since been offered out by former Sheffield United, Leeds and Ireland goalkeeper Paddy Kenny.

Kenny claims Rooney won’t let up about him conceding two stoppage-time goals – including the infamous Sergio Aguero strike – that cost United the title in 2012. The Irishman was in goal for Queens Park Rangers that day.

“He keeps hammering me about that Aguero goal, so I think me and him need to sort it out in the ring,” Kenny told Boxing Social.

“13 years on, he’s still saying I let the goals in! It might have looked like I let them in but I didn’t!”

Kenny was speaking ahead of his fight with another former Premier League player, Curtis Davies, at a charity boxing event next month.

What did Rooney say about Misfits Boxing?

Rooney turned down an opportunity to join Misfits Boxing before taking the Plymouth Argyle job last year.

Speaking about the offer, Rooney told The Overlap: “They’ve been in touch and asked the question but I think at the minute I want to focus on getting back into management, not boxing.”

After lasting just seven months in the job, Rooney could return to the offer from Misfits Boxing or just invite Kenny around to his local gym for a scrap.
