In one of the most bizarre answers to a question we’ve seen, former Manchester United star Laurent Blanc invited his board to sack him.

Laurent Blanc played for Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson from 2001 until 2003 when he retired, with Sir Alex heralding him as ‘briliant‘.

Blanc has since then had a storied management which includes a spell as France national team manager and also the PSG boss from 2013 until 2016.

The French also managed Bordeaux at the beginning of his career, and Qatari side Al-Rayyan from 2020 to 2022.

Most recently however, Blanc has been in charge at Olympique Lyon since October 2022, but there could now be trouble in paradise.

Blanc asks for the sack

The former United man hasn’t seen his Lyon side start the new season well with back to back losses already.

The most recent loss coming in front of a passionate home crowd, however after the 4-1 defeat to Montpellier they were passionate for the wrong reasons.

Speaking in a post-game interview on Amazon Prime, Blanc was asked what he feels can be done to change the poor situation Lyon find themselves in.

To this question Blanc sternly replied, “Change the manager.”

While we aren’t sure if this was just tongue and cheek, it was certainly a bizarre response.

His career for United

Blanc is a former Premier League champion, helping United regain the title in his last season as a professional.

He made 75 appearances for United from centre-back and scored four goals impressively.

Blanc enjoyed a hugely successful career which saw him lift both the European Championship and World Cup for France, with whom he made 97-caps.

An impressive career, and a great character, although we hope he doesn’t get his wish and remains in the Lyon job.
