Ex-Manchester United star Odion Ighalo has put pen to paper with a new Saudi Pro League side in Al-Wehda.

The Nigerian forward has spent the last two and a half years in Saudi Arabia. He initially signed for Al Shabab when Manchester United didn’t renew his loan deal and then went on to sign for Al-Hilal the year after.

The now 34-year-old has been prolific since his arrival in the middle east. According to Transfemarkt Ighalo has netted a remarkable 46 goals for the two sides – with 20 of those coming for Al Hilal last season when they won the league title and Kings Cup.

He finished top scorer, but that wasn’t enough for the Saudi Arabia Professional League champions to renew his contract, which meant he’s now going to be playing elsewhere.

Odion Ighalo signs for Al-Wehda

Odion Ighalo was announced by the Mecca-based club as their new signing on Tuesday the 15th of August 2023.

The former Super Eagles forward put pen to paper on a two-year contract. This means he’ll be 36 by the time this is up, but he’s definitely still got it!

However, things may be set to change for the Nigerian, with an influx of astounding names joining the league, which means the quality will certainly kick up a notch.

It was thought that Ighalo was exiled by Al Hilal due to them wanting to acquire some more ‘stellar names’ in the hopes of retaining their title next season.

They’ve certainly done just that, with the imminent arrival of Neymar and the signings of Malcom, Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic Savic and Kalidou Koulibaly.

Ighalo at Manchester United

Ighalo will be remembered as a bit of a ‘cult hero‘ at Manchester United.

He came in on loan amid a striker crisis and did a job when he played. His best moment in a United shirt was undoubtedly against LASK in the Europa League.

Some keepy-uppies followed by a thunderous half-volley won United’s goal of the month and will live long in the memory of fans, and Ighalo – a self-proclaimed United fan who lived his dream.
