Manchester United defeated Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup, with Anthony Elanga starring for the home side.
Erik ten Hag deemed Anthony Elanga surplus to requirements in the summer of 2023. Manchester United announced that Elanga had signed a five-year deal with Nottingham Forest for a reported £15 million transfer fee.
Since leaving, the young Swedish winger has excelled for his new club. He’s become a regular in the first-team squad and has been lighting up the Premier League at The City Ground.
It led to debate as to whether he should’ve been sold at Manchester United. The potential is definitely there for an excellent player. Former United academy man Demetri Mitchell is a big fan of the winger and even has made a bold claim about him.

Mitchell took to Twitter/X last night following Manchester United’s victory in the FA Cup to state, in his words, an ‘unpopular opinion about Alejandro Garnacho and Elanga.
He wrote: ‘Unpopular Opinion: Future potential Elanga > Garnacho’.
This sparked conversation in the comments. Garnacho, at just 19, has cemented himself as one of Manchester United’s top performers already.
Elanga, whilst performing well at Forest, didn’t make an everlasting impact at Old Trafford – hence why he was sold.
Whilst we respect the claim, we don’t exactly agree with it – however, there is something we can definitely agree with Mitchell on.
Demetri Mitchell rates Kobbie Mainoo
Mitchell also took to X to state, ‘Mainoo is the truth,’ which we can wholeheartedly say we agree on.
Kobbie Mainoo didn’t start in the FA Cup clash but has been Manchester United’s star player over the past few months, alongside Rasmus Hojlund.
Ten Hag made a wise decision last night to rest Mainoo. You forget he is just 18 years old and still runs the risk of getting burned out.
He also is vital if Manchester United stand any chance whatsoever against their noisy neighbours in the Premier League on the weekend. A wise move from the manager, which paid off.
