Former Manchester United flop Bebe helped produce a stunning upset on Sunday night as Cape Verde beat Ghana 2-1 at the Africa Cup of Nations.
United aren’t quite as impacted by the Africa Cup of Nations as first expected.
Hannibal Mejbri wasn’t called up by Tunisia as he prepares to complete a move to Sevilla whilst Andre Onana was given permission to play against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday before heading away with Cameroon.
Sofyan Amrabat is with Morocco right now but potential disruption has been lower than first imagined.
Fans may have tuned in to watch Ghana against Cape Verde on Sunday – and United supporters would have seen a familiar face…
Bebe helps Cape Verde stun Ghana
Nobody was expecting a Cape Verde win in this one.
Ghana are one of the favourites to win the whole tournament with a number of Premier League players in their ranks.
Chris Hughton’s men endured a nightmare evening though as Cape Verde took a first-half lead before Alexander Djiku levelled it up.
There was a twist in the tale though as Cape Verde grabbed an injury-time winner, producing a stunning upset just days into the competition.
Cape Verde’s win was aided by former United flop Bebe, who started in attack.
Bebe was substituted with 15 minutes to play having gone so close to scoring with Djiku clearing his goal-bound effort off the line.
This was a truly stunning result and a historic victory for Cape Verde, who will now hope to produce a few more upsets in this tournament.

Where has Bebe been since Manchester United stint?
Bebe will go down as one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s more infamous signings, arriving in a strange £7.4million move from Vitoria de Guimaraes in 2010.
The 6ft 3in attacker had been playing in a street football tournament just a year earlier yet found himself arriving at Old Trafford in a bizarre transfer.
Ferguson even admitted just days after Bebe’s arrival that he had never even seen him play and was just going off a recommendation from United scouts.
To nobody’s surprise, Bebe only managed seven first-team appearances for United, scoring just two goals.
Loan spells with Besiktas and Rio Ave didn’t help Bebe, but 14 goals in 39 games on loan at Pacos de Ferreira sparked a move to Benfica.
United sold Bebe in 2014, but he only ever played six games for the Lisbon giants.
Spain became Bebe’s new home as he joined Cordoba and Rayo Vallecano on loan before signing for Eibar on a permanent basis in 2016.
Rayo came calling again for a loan deal though, turning a 2018 switch permanent as Bebe found his home.
182 games, 24 goals and 17 assists across three spells at Rayo have seen him become a club hero.
Now 33, Bebe remains on the Rayo books but did spend time on loan at Real Zaragoza in 2023, and is now playing a bit-part role in La Liga.
Bebe is still going strong for club and country and United fans will surely be pleased to see him shining as he enters the latter stages of his career.
