Former Manchester United man Daley Blind is on top of the world for his new side.

Daley Blind, 33, arrived on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, to La Liga side Girona this season, where they’re shocking the footballing world with a serious push for the title.

So far, they’ve been neck and neck with Jude Belligham’s Real Madrid squad at the top of the table.

That was until this weekend when Blind and his side once again pulled off something miraculous.

Blind’s side beat Xavi’s Barcelona Titans 4-2… in their own backyard!

Girona went ahead early thanks to an Artem Dovbyk strike, before Robert Lewandowski made it 1-1 seven minutes later.

However, it was Girona who would find themselves 3-1 up. Goals from Miguel Gutierrez in the 40th and Cristhian Stuani in the 80th sent the travelling fans wild.

Ilkay Gundogan pulled one back in a desperate attempt to salvage the game, which ultimately led to Girona’s fourth in the 95th minute to cement a famous victory.

Blind was extremely solid throughout. He more or less marked one of the best strikers in the world, Lewandowski, out of the game apart from his early strike.

It sent Blind’s side top of the La Liga table. Real Madrid could only manage a draw the day before, meaning Girona capitalised and now sit two points clear after 16 games.

The underdog’s title charge dream is slowly becoming a reality after results like this. Blind and the boys mean business.

Xavi on Girona loss

Barcelona’s boss, Xavi, admitted just how good Blind’s side was after the fixture.

“It is not a bad game for Barca,” the coach said post-match.

“Last year we also suffered a blow, but we won two titles. This is a Barca under construction. Construction has this. You take one step back to take two steps forward.

“We deserved more, but that’s football. When you’re not so forceful in defence you receive a very hard blow. Girona has a great team. We haven’t played bad football. That lack of forcefulness, it costs us a heavy defeat that is difficult to digest but we have to get up.”
