Espanyol CEO has admitted Manchester United strike target Raul de Tomas could leave

Manchester United have made contact with Spanish club Espanyol over a move for striker Raul de Tomas, reports Cope.

Raul de Tomas scored 17 goals last season and is an international for Spain, and Espanyol have been unable to pledge to keep him.

Cope‘s report claims United could succeed in signing the striker for £21-25 million, substantially less than the release clause in his contract.

Teamtalk report De Tomas has a £60 million release clause in his contract. Manchester United may not need to go this high.

Espanyol CEO admitted Raul de Tomas could leave

Espanyol CEO Mao Ye told Mao Ye told La Grada last week that he could offer no guarantees over the striker’s future.

He said: “There are days left in the market. And there are always possibilities. But we have him in our squad.”

De Tomas did not feature in Espanyol’s opening game of the season. This was down to a fitness issue, rather than being transfer related.

Raul de Tomas is nicknamed RDT and was called up into the Spain squad for the first time last season. He has four caps so far.

The 27-year-old is coming off the best two seasons of his career to date, scoring 40 goals, and has to decide whether to stay put in a place where he is happy, or take the gamble and switch to a bigger club.

Manchester United really is the ultimate challenge right now. If a deal can be struck, and De Tomas is willing to embrace the opportunity, he is a player we should welcome with open arms.
