Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui are the two most recent additions for Manchester United this summer.
Both of these two arrivals know Erik ten Hag well and this is a factor in why both have immediately fitted into the squad.
Noussair Mazraoui in particular was an instant hit, starting against Fulham and putting in a performance which left fans impressed.
Manchester United will also have been encouraged by Matthijs de Ligt’s assured debut.
Things are looking good heading toward the new season, and now Ten Hag’s first words to his two latest additions will have fans excited.
What Erik ten Hag said to De Ligt and Mazraoui
After the new United duo signed their deals last week, they had a moment with Ten Hag and Dan Ashworth, now United have released these interactions.
“So happy I would say [that] you’ve both arrived, very pleased. We are highly ambitious, we want to achieve the highest.
“The last two seasons, we won two trophies but there has to be more. You guys, you know how to win trophies, that’s why you are here. To contribute to this, we want the highest, we want to compete for the top in the Premier League and we want even more.”
These words show the ambition Ten Hag has at United and fans will love to hear that the target is the Premier League trophy and even higher.
After Ten Hag’s words, new sporting director Ashworth then had some for the pair.
“I think from my point of view”, Ashworth began.
“Just to echo that we’re delighted that you’re here. I know it’s taken a little bit of time and we’ve been talking for a while with Bayern trying to get the deal done, so thank you for your patience.
“Got you in before the start of the season which is brilliant, which is the main thing. So here’s to a successful season and a successful career here at Manchester United.”
Videos like this are a really nice touch and continue to show the human side of the club after so many years of the club almost being distanced from the fans.
Ineos continue to get it right, and this season also feels like success is on its way.
Ten Hag’s comments are exciting
While the last two years have seen two trophies brought back to Old Trafford, United can and should have higher goals – namely recapturing our Premier League crown.
It feels like finally, the club are on the right path to do so, with excellent recruitment and some very promising performances -with Ineos playing a big role in things going the right way.
From when Ineos took charge until now, more steps have been taken toward improving the club than in the previous decade under the Glazers’ rule.
So bringing things back to Ten Hag’s comments, it is so exciting to finally hear these targets being openly discussed and to feel like they are realistic.
