Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has indicated that Casemiro will ‘definitely’ miss this weekend’s Premier League clash with Fulham.
As if Sunday’s defeat to Manchester City wasn’t bad enough, United served up another terrible performance on Wednesday night.
Erik ten Hag’s men were destroyed by Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup as the Magpies racked up a 3-0 victory.
United were second-best throughout, even against a Newcastle side who rotated heavily from their Premier League side.
Just two shots on target at home is torrid stuff from United and another injury blow has made life even worse for Ten Hag with a number of players already out.
Erik ten Hag confirms Casemiro injury blow
Casemiro started alongside Mason Mount in United’s midfield but the Brazilian only lasted 45 minutes.
Sofyan Amrabat came on for Casemiro at the break after a rusty display, picking up a first-half yellow card.
Some wondered whether Casemiro was just being protected after a recent spell out of the side.
However, Ten Hag has now told Metro that Casemiro was taken off because he has picked up another injury.
Ten Hag added that Casemiro is ‘definitely’ out of Saturday’s game against Fulham, suffering another setback.
“He was injured,” said Ten Hag. “Just before half-time, he got an injury so that’s why we had to take him off.”
“I can’t give an answer on that, we have to wait 24 hours but I think definitely for Saturday he’s out,” he added when asked how long Casemiro will be out.

Casemiro’s difficult start to the season continues
Casemiro was so good last season, making a huge impact in the United engine room after arriving from Real Madrid.
This season has been tricky though with Casemiro looking like a shadow of last season’s force.
An ankle injury suffered on international duty last month kept Casemiro out against Sheffield United, Copenhagen and Manchester City before returning against Newcastle.
Ten Hag didn’t disclose the exact injury but maybe Casemiro was rushed back and wasn’t quite ready for last night’s game.
Casemiro now faces another spell on the sidelines, and there will be concerns that these injuries will be more common given that he is now into his 30’s.
The injury leaves Ten Hag to again cobble together a functioning midfield, starting with this weekend’s trip to Fulham.
