Erik ten Hag says he will talk to Man United star about alarming slump in form

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed he will chat to Marcus Rashford about his poor form this season.

After a 30-goal season in Erik Ten Hag’s first campaign in charge, the Englishman has struggled hugely for Manchester United for months now.

With just two goals to his name, Marcus Rashford looks wildly out of form for the Red Devils this season and the Englishman was once again atrocious against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Rashford was correctly substituted with half an hour of the game remaining in what has been a sharp decline for the forward when looking back on last season’s outstanding performances.

Ten Hag on Rashford

Speaking to the media, as quoted by The Mirror, after the defeat in Tyneside, Ten Hag was asked about Rashford’s poor form after the defeat to Eddie Howe’s side and gave a simple response.

“I will talk to him and not the media,” Ten Hag said after the game when asked what is going wrong for the English forward.

“I don’t go into individual performances. I knew this issue was coming up and Marcus is investing a lot. He will return to his form, he will recover and he will get all our support.”

The Englishman certainly needs the support of his teammates and the manager right now as Rashford is going through a similar spell that he went through during the disastrous 2021-2022 season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and then Ralf Rangnick.

Rashford needs taking out of the team

Despite Ten Hag’s words of encouragement for the 26-year-old, it is time for Rashford to be removed from the team until he rediscovers his form.

Alejandro Garnacho has come in and has performed well from the left but Rashford on the right just does not work. There were some signs it might work earlier on in the season but those have quickly gone out of the window.

Facundo Pellistri has been waiting patiently for his opportunity in the first team and has impressed on international duty with Uruguay.

Amad Diallo should be back in contention soon following the injury he suffered during pre-season and the Ivorian could be given a run of games following his successful loan last season but something has to give, Rashford needs dropping.
